We use
preformed and pre-treated wood fibre filters to trap sediment. The
huge surface area to volume ratio of this natural fibre (34,000 m2m-3)
means that the very smallest particles are trapped, even less than
5 µ, optimising ammonium and nitrite removal efficiency in the next
stage.
The fibre
pallets can be replaced once used and used for compost, or vermiculture
to produce worms to feed fish.
