Nitrate Removal
Removal of
nitrate is an important process because it reduces the pressure on the
first stages of the filtration system, allows high protein diets to be
used , resulting in increased yield per unit volume and allows cash
crops to be grown in the same footprint.
We have
developed an algal bio-bead system that is extremely efficient at
removing all major nutrients, including nitrate and phosphate, and also
reduces trace elements derived from fish feed residues. The algal
bio-beads can be used in fresh and slat water, increasing the
range of species grown in in tank systems.
Algal bio-beads
are effective at a bead density of between 5000 and 10,000 per litre,
with complete removal nitrogen compounds in cycle times of 3-4 days at
maximum fish stocking densities. Algal biobeads are stable in deionised
water for 9 - 12 months and can be sent back to Flo-Gro Systems
for regeneration.

High value cash
crops such as Watercress, Tomatoes, Lettuce and other salad crops can be
grown in the system on a rapid turnover time, producing small quantities
for local restaurants, markets and other outlets.
